I was playing "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2008" on background the other day and again liked the music a lot. So I did a little research, and surprisingly was truly touched by one of the song "Human" (The Killers). When I say I am "touched" by a song, it's always the lyrics that does the trick. Yes even though I don't usually listen to contemporary music, this one is definitely an exception that enchants me. As I mentioned, I've been thinking about the possibility of becoming religious. Religion is tempting, I admit, especially to someone like me who lives in a hell that nobody else can see (to some extent everyone is like that I guess), for it's reassuring, comforting. But even though I realize that I can not approach the question from a scientific perspective, pure "spirit" wise I still have two big questions. One is about the fairness of the creator, the other concerns human pride (I know they call it a sin, whatever). This song, albeit the author(s) might be thinking of being independent, rebellious in a social context, I think one can apply it to other scenarios as well. I like this verse best: bold yet very powerful -
"Pay my respects to grace and virtue
send my condolences to good
give my regards to soul and romance
they always did the best they could
and so long to devotion,
you taught me everything I know
wave good bye, wish me well"
The Killers Human Lyrics:
I did my best to notice
when the call came down the line
up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind
and sometimes I get nervous
when I see an open door
Close your eyes, clear your heart
Cut the cord
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I´m on my knees
looking for the answer
are we human or are we dancer
Pay my respects to grace and virtue
send my condolences to good
give my regards to soul and romance
they always did the best they could
and so long to devotion,
you taught me everything I know
wave good bye, wish me well
You gotta let me go
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I´m on my knees
looking for the answer
are we human or are we dancer
Will your system be all right
when you dream of home tonight
there is no message we're receiving
let me know is your heart still beating
Are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I´m on my knees
looking for the answer
You´ve gotta let me know
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I´m on my knees
looking for the answer
are we human
or are we dancer
Are we human or are we dancer
Are we human or are we dancer

真巧,这首歌也在我的list里
是还不错吧。很多人说这个是说美国新一代的社会观念,可是我怎么看怎么象人和上帝的关系,‘cut the cord' 'I'm on my knees',还有我摘的那段
you gotta let me go, 好拽
where to go?
Viva la Vida
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sweep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of sand, pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
Once you know there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
(Ohhh)
It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People could not believe what I’d become
Revolutionaries Wait For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)
Hear Jerusalem bells are ringings
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh”
