Officially Spring

So 10:44 this morning was the exact moment of Spring equinox. Thanks to facebook, I learned from a couple of friends with Iranian lineage that the Persian New Year is in fact Spring equinox. I think this is neat. In theory the Chinese New Year also celebrates the Spring, but to me it's more like a symbol saying "OK, the Spring is going to come in three months." Not that I don't like our own traditional festival, I just think the idea of setting the new year as the time when the Spring actually arrives refreshing.

I like the Spring, especially after all the cold and dark nightmares. She is a promise that will always be kept, that she will come back again, that flowers will blossom always once more. Well this is not a time to get sentimental. Just laugh and enjoy her presence now, and wait for the next one!

Very nice.....I like to play with illusion and perception in my mind. I love it when the shadows shift and you see the framework not the object.

very nice. I love the way your examine perspective and freeze the moment. Isn't is magical when your mind slips from the object inot the outlines and shadow framework and you see another dimension?

Thanks Alison! Your comments always enrich my own perspectives :) I think of illusion as the consequence of our visual system adapting to the statistics of the world so well that sometimes when exception happens it can be fooled. Fooled or not, I love it. Because it's pretty, because it's amazing, it's like a magic that people try to explain. But if we step back a little from reasoning why it happens and just enjoy what's coming out, it can be a whole different experience. Sometimes it's things like that that make me feel life is worthwhile... I'm not sure if I'm making much sense here....

You know the spot where these shots are taken right? I see it every day on my way to work but yesterday afternoon was actually the first time I spent a little time hanging around it. I think it's really nice to have such a pretty little garden right next to a busy traffic intersection!
